Portable speakers charge through their USB-C port or a proprietary dock, and the charging speed depends entirely on the adapter you supply. Using a weak charger can slow charging dramatically or stop it altogether.
Sonos publishes exact charging requirements for its portables, and they vary by model:

Check the printed voltage and current on your adapter to confirm it meets the speaker’s minimum. How Do AC-Powered Speakers Connect To The Wall?
AC-powered speakers use either an internal power supply or an external adapter that converts wall current to the DC voltage the speaker needs. The spec is usually printed on the adapter brick or in the manual.
Two Sonos home products list internal power supplies rated at 100-240V, 50/60Hz: the Sonos Five and the Sonos Amp. That wide range means they work in any home outlet without a converter. Sony’s wireless speakers take a different approach — one manual specifies a DC 19.5V input delivered through the supplied AC adapter connected to a 100V-240V, 50/60Hz wall supply. The same manual lists standby power at 0.5W or less in Power Saving mode, and 2W or less in the other standby mode.
Can You Use A Third-Party Charger?
Sometimes, but only if the output matches the speaker’s requirements. A USB-C PD-capable adapter with a fast-charging cable works for most supported Sonos portables, provided the voltage and current hit the numbers in the table above. Using an adapter with insufficient current is the most common failure — the speaker either charges at a crawl or not at all.
Sonos also warns in one manual PDF that using only the supplied power cord is required for some products, and that third-party cords may void the warranty. For the FCC-listed amplified speaker system, the manual directs you to connect the supplied AC adapters to the DC 12V jacks on the transmitter and speakers, or install the required D batteries in each speaker.
One more caveat that trips people up during setup: Sonos states that 802.11n-only router configurations are not supported for Wi-Fi setup. That’s a networking limit, not a power issue, but it can make a fresh speaker look broken when it’s actually fine.
