Encountering the “Apple ID Not Yet Used in iTunes Store” error can be frustrating.
It’s a common issue, especially for users who have recently set up a new Apple ID or purchased a device second-hand.
The error essentially means your Apple ID hasn’t been fully linked to the iTunes Store, which prevents you from downloading content.
But don’t worry! While it may seem like a dead end, there are simple steps you can take to resolve the problem
But first, understand what causes the issue.
What Causes the “Apple ID not yet used in iTunes Store” Error?
Turns out, when you create a new Apple ID, you have to accept some terms and conditions before you can use your account.
But after digging deeper, I found out that this issue can happen for a variety of reasons not just for new Apple IDs, but even for existing ones, especially if you’re using a second-hand device like me.
Some common causes include:
- Missing country information
- Not providing shipping or billing details
- Not selecting a payment method (even if you choose “None”)
Adding this information fixes the problem for many, but for some, it doesn’t.
After much trial and error, I have put together the solutions that work.
Whether this is your first time seeing the error or it keeps coming back for other reasons, this guide will help you fix it.
Let’s get started and fix this annoying prompt!
Solution 1: Complete Your Apple ID Setup by Accepting Terms and Conditions
The first step to fixing the “Apple ID not yet used in iTunes Store” error is to complete your Apple ID setup by accepting the Media & Purchases terms and conditions.
As I mentioned earlier, I created my Apple ID on the web, which didn’t prompt me to accept these terms and this was the root cause of my issue.
To accept the terms and conditions, follow these steps:
Open the App Store on your device. Try downloading any app. You will see a pop-up saying, “Apple ID not yet used in iTunes Store” with two options: Cancel and Review.
Tap Review and on the next screen, your will have an option to accept the terms and conditions. Toggle the acceptance option and select your country.
After that, you will be asked for your payment method and billing/shipping information.
For payment method, you can choose None, but if you want to add a card, you can do that too.
For billing and shipping, fill in your address, state, phone number, etc.
Once you have done this, you will see a message saying your Apple ID is completed.
Afterward, sign back into the App Store using your Apple ID, and you are good to go!
If this works for you, congratulations!
However many users encounter an issue where, after clicking Review, the screen keeps loading and doesn’t redirect to the terms and conditions page.
Don’t worry Solution 2 will cover how to fix this loading issue.
Solution 2: Sign In and Sign Out from Media & Purchases
If the first solution didn’t work and your screen keeps loading after clicking Review, then try this.
1) Go to Settings on your iPhone.
2) Tap on your profile at the top, then scroll down and tap on Media & Purchases.
3) A pop-up will appear—tap Sign Out. After signing out, tap Media & Purchases again and sign back in.
Now, head back to the App Store and try downloading the app again.
When you are prompted with the review pop-up, click Review this time it should work! after that follow the steps from the first solution, and you will be able to download the apps without any issues.
If this still doesn’t work, move on to the third solution it’s a sure fix, and users tell me it worked for them!
Solution 3: Select a Country in Media and Purchases and accept terms
In this solution, go to your iPhone settings, tap on your profile, and then tap on Media & Purchases.
Now, tap View Account, and you will see the option for Country/Region.
Tap on it and select your country. Once you select your country, the terms and conditions page will open tap Agree to accept.
After that, you will be redirected to a screen where you need to provide your payment information.
For the payment method, select “None“. In the billing section, enter your name, street address, city, state, and zip code.
If you don’t know your zip code, you can easily find it by searching for your city’s zip code on Google (e.g., “New York City zip code”).
You will also need to provide your phone number. After entering the details, tap Next, and you should see a message that says, “Apple ID Completed.”
After completing this process, head back to the App Store, and you should no longer face any issues when trying to download apps.
The next solution is for those of you who are still not able to fix it so follow the next solution
Solution 4: Add Payment Method and Billing Info
Although the App Store usually lets you download apps without adding a payment method by selecting “None,” sometimes you will need to add a payment method for verification purposes.
Don’t worry you won’t be charged. It’s just to confirm your account is legitimate.
After that, you will be asked to provide your billing and shipping information for the account to work properly.
To do this, go to Settings on your iPhone, tap on your profile, and then tap on Payment & Shipping.
Add your payment method and enter your billing and shipping address.
Once that’s done, go back, tap on Media & Purchases, and sign out, then sign back in.
Now, check the App Store, and you should be able to download apps without any issues.
Note: If the App Store keeps loading or closing after tapping on the “Apple ID not yet used in iTunes Store” review option, the solution is to add your payment, shipping, and billing info as described in this step.
Final Thoughts
I hope following this guide carefully helps resolve your issue. If not, the best option is to contact Apple Support directly.
They can fix it from their end, especially if your account was created with Gmail, as they sometimes flag new accounts.
I had to do this for my brother’s iPhone when I had no success with these solutions for that particular account while for other accounts these solutions worked for me but Apple Support resolved it quickly.
Once your account is green-flagged, then you can use it in the App Store and iTunes Store.
