Font size changes text on sites that allow browser font sizing. Page zoom enlarges text, images, forms, and page buttons, so it works on more pages but can make wide layouts spill sideways.
Which Chrome Setting Should You Use First?
Chrome’s Font size setting is the first place to try when paragraph text feels too small. Page zoom is the better pick when the full web page, including buttons and form boxes, needs to grow.
Use the narrowest change that solves the problem. A site set to 125% zoom stays readable on that site only, while a global page zoom affects every web page you open.
- Use Font size for articles, search results, and text-heavy pages.
- Use Page zoom for shopping carts, dashboards, PDFs viewed in Chrome, and pages with tiny buttons.

Chrome can enlarge webpage font from the Appearance panel, and the setting stays in place after Chrome closes. Google says some websites do not let browsers change only the text size, so page zoom is the fallback when font size does nothing.
- Open Chrome on your computer.
- Click the three-dot More menu in the top-right corner.
- Click Settings.
- Click Appearance in the left menu.

Use Page Zoom When Text Still Looks Tiny
Page zoom is the fix when a website ignores Font size or when page controls are also too small. Chrome lets you set a default zoom for all pages or zoom one site from the More menu.
For all websites on desktop Chrome, open Settings > Appearance, then choose a larger value next to Page zoom. A 110% or 125% setting is often enough for laptop screens without forcing too much sideways scrolling.
For one website, click the three-dot More menu and use the + button beside Zoom. The page grows right away; Chrome also remembers zoom levels for sites you have changed before.
Why Do Some Sites Ignore Chrome Font Size?
Some websites ignore Chrome’s text-only font setting because the page controls its own text sizing. Page zoom gets around that by scaling the whole rendered page instead of asking the site to resize only letters.
That is why a news article may react to Font size, while a banking dashboard or checkout page may not. When the text, buttons, and boxes all look cramped, Page zoom usually gives the steadier result.
Make Chrome Text Bigger On Android And iPhone
Chrome on Android has its own zoom controls under Accessibility. Chrome on iPhone uses a Zoom text control from the More menu, so the mobile steps are different from desktop Chrome.
Android
- Open Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot More menu in the top-right corner.
- Tap Settings > Accessibility.
- Move the Default zoom slider until the preview text is comfortable.
- Turn on Force enable zoom if pages block zoom.
The preview text changes as you move the slider, and new pages open at the larger size.
iPhone And iPad
- Open Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot More menu.
- Tap Zoom text.
- Use Zoom in at the top of the screen.
The page grows while the zoom controls stay visible at the top, so you can back the size down before leaving the page.

The Settings Worth Changing
Set Font size to Large first when the problem is mostly reading text. Set Page zoom to 110% or 125% when page controls also feel cramped.
Use the keyboard shortcut when you only need a temporary boost: press Ctrl + + on Windows, Linux, or ChromeOS, or press ⌘ + + on Mac. Use site zoom from the More menu when one website, not the whole browser, is the problem.
Chrome’s own menus do not grow from Font size or Page zoom. When tab names, bookmark text, or the address bar are too small, change the display or text size in Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS instead.
