How to Edit Samsung TV Home Screen | App Row Fix

Edit a Samsung TV Home screen by moving app tiles, removing clutter, and adding shortcuts through Smart Hub or Apps settings.

A crowded app row turns every movie night into remote-control hunting. Samsung’s Smart Hub menus handle how to edit Samsung TV home screen with three main changes: move the apps you use, remove the ones you do not want in sight, and add missing shortcuts from the Apps screen.

The process does not reset the TV, delete your Samsung Account, or erase installed apps unless you choose Delete inside app settings. Most 2018 and newer Samsung Smart TVs use the same remote pattern: highlight the tile, press and hold Select, then choose what to do next.

Edit The Samsung TV Home Screen: What You Can Change

Samsung TV Home screen edits mostly affect the Smart Hub app row, connected-device shortcuts, and the screen that appears when the TV powers on. Built-in promotional rows and some recommended apps can be limited, but not fully removed on every model.

The edits worth doing are practical. Put Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, or your antenna input near the front. Remove apps you never open from the visible row. Add HDMI devices to Home so a game console or cable box sits beside your streaming apps.

Home Screen Item What You Can Usually Do Where To Start
Streaming app tile Move, remove from Home, or open Home screen app row
Installed app not shown Add to Home Apps > Settings
Downloaded app you no longer use Delete from the TV Apps > App Settings
Recommended app Remove from Home on many models; deletion may be blocked Highlighted app tile
HDMI device shortcut Add to Home, rename, or change icon Connected Devices
Settings tile Rearrange frequently used setting tiles Settings panel
Start screen behavior Choose whether Smart Hub opens at power-on on supported models All Settings > Advanced Features
Samsung TV Plus tile Remove from Home or disable autorun on supported models Tile menu or Smart Features menu

How Do You Move Apps On The Samsung TV Home Screen?

Moving apps on a Samsung TV Home screen starts from the visible app row, not the full app store. Highlight the app tile, open its tile menu, and place it where your thumb naturally goes first.

  1. Press Home on the Samsung remote.
  2. Move across the app row and highlight the app you want to reposition.
  3. Press and hold Select, the center button inside the directional ring.
  4. Choose Move.
  5. Use the left or right directional buttons to place the app.
  6. Press Select again to drop the app into that spot.

The tile stays in the new position after you press Select. Put your two or three daily apps first, then place less-used apps farther right so the Home row stops feeling crowded.

Add Missing Apps Back To Home

Missing apps are usually still installed; the shortcut was just removed from the Home row. Samsung’s Apps screen lets you pin an installed app back to Home without downloading it again.

Open Home > Apps, then select the Settings icon in the upper-right corner. Highlight the app you want, choose Add to Home, then move it into position with the directional buttons.

Samsung says Smart TV apps must come from the TV’s App store, and its current app instructions include Add to Home, Remove, Move, app locking, deletion, and auto-update controls. The full steps are listed in Samsung’s Smart TV app instructions.

Use App Settings When A Tile Menu Is Not Enough

Samsung’s Apps settings are better when you need to delete, lock, unlock, or update apps instead of only changing the visible row. Removing a tile hides the shortcut; deleting an app removes the installed app from storage.

  • For auto updates: go to Home > Apps > App Settings > Auto Update and turn it on.
  • For app locks: go to Apps > App Settings, select an app, then choose Lock or Unlock.
  • For deletion: go to Apps > App Settings, select the app, choose Delete, then confirm Delete.

Recommended apps may refuse deletion on some Samsung TVs. Use Remove from the Home row instead, then move the apps you do use into the first visible slots.

Keep The TV From Opening The Wrong Screen

Samsung TV start behavior decides whether the TV opens Smart Hub, the last used source, Samsung TV Plus, or another recent screen. On supported 2025 models, Start Screen Option controls whether Smart Hub Home launches when the TV powers on.

Open Settings > All Settings > Advanced Features > Start Screen Option. Choose Start with Smart Hub Home, then turn the option on or off.

Older models may place similar controls under General, General & Privacy, or Smart Features. Look for options named Autorun Smart Hub, Autorun Last App, or Autorun Samsung TV Plus. Turning off unwanted autorun options makes the Home screen feel less pushy when the TV starts.

Problem You See Setting Or Action To Try Expected Result
TV opens Samsung TV Plus first Turn off Autorun Samsung TV Plus if your model has it TV stops launching the channel feed at startup
TV opens the last app Turn off Autorun Last App Startup becomes less tied to yesterday’s app
Smart Hub does not open at power-on Enable Start with Smart Hub Home Home appears when the TV turns on
App row feels messy again Move daily apps to the first 3 slots Less sideways scrolling
Old HDMI name looks confusing Use Connected Devices and edit the source name Console, cable box, or player is easier to spot

What If An App Will Not Move Or Delete?

A Samsung TV app that will not move or delete usually falls into one of three groups: a recommended app, a locked app, or an app affected by Smart Hub trouble. The fix depends on which menu still responds.

Try the app-row edit first. Highlight the app, press and hold Select, then choose Remove or Move. If the menu does not appear, open Apps > App Settings and check whether the app has Lock, Unlock, or Delete.

If Apps settings will not load, run a software update before resetting anything. Open Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. A finished update returns the TV to the normal menu, where the Home row can be edited again.

Finish With A Home Screen That Matches Your Habits

A useful Samsung TV Home screen puts daily choices first and hides everything that slows you down. Treat the first row like a remote-control speed dial, not a storage shelf for every app.

  1. Place your main streaming app in slot 1.
  2. Place your second streaming app or live TV app in slot 2.
  3. Add your main HDMI device to Home if you use a console, cable box, or Blu-ray player.
  4. Remove app tiles you have not opened in the last month.
  5. Turn on Auto Update so app fixes install without a manual check.
  6. Turn off unwanted startup options if the TV keeps opening the wrong screen.
  7. Leave one or two empty-looking gaps by removing clutter instead of filling every visible slot.

The Home row is done when pressing Home shows your daily apps first, the extra tiles are gone, and the TV opens the screen you expect when it powers on.
