Removing and installing a complete wheel assembly is a straightforward home-garage job. Separating a tire from its rim to mount it on a new rim is specialized work that usually demands a tire machine and balancing equipment. Knowing which one you’re doing changes everything about the tools you’ll need.
What Most Drivers Actually Need: Swapping The Wheel Assembly
If your new rims arrive with tires already mounted—or you’re moving the current tire and wheel combo from one corner to another—you’re swapping a complete wheel assembly, not changing rims in the technical sense.
