When Do You Need a PoE Injector?
You need a PoE injector when a device requires PoE but the switch or router feeding it does not supply it. That situation shows up most often when someone adds a security camera, an IP phone, or an access point to a network that was never wired for PoE.
An injector is also the cheaper fix when replacing the whole switch is overkill, and it leaves the existing network hardware untouched. How Do You Set Up a PoE Injector?

- Run a second Ethernet cable from the injector’s PoE/Data OUT port to the PoE-powered device.

No. An injector adds DC power to an Ethernet cable so a PoE-ready device can run without a PoE switch. A splitter does the opposite: it pulls power off the cable and delivers it to a device with no PoE input, usually through a small DC barrel connector. The two are often sold and used together as a kit.
Does a PoE injector slow down network speed?
No. The injector passes data through untouched, and many current models support gigabit speeds on both ports — TP-Link’s TL-POE150S, for example, lists 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiation. Cable grade and total run length affect speed and reliability far more than the injector itself.
